Mighty Resident Evil Magnum Gun, December 9, 2010

Fun: 

I have just recieved my Magnum Gun. I must state it was everything I expected it looked even superior than the picture. I think if you are a true Resident Evil fan, you must add this gun to your collection. It has a double trigger that grants you to use both for the B and A button which is amazing. But the ideal part about the second trigger is it actually works for the A button. There is one withdraw, I am sure if your Wii remote has a lot of usage that the A trigger will not work as well.

The nunchuk knife part I must state is the best. It is just sad that u dont get to use it for what it is needed for cutting zombies. Resident Evil game makers please make a game where the knife can be used.. Lol

But overall I have to give the Magnum gun an(-A)

My Favorite Wii Gun Accessory Yet!, December 15, 2010

Fun: 

I have several gun housings for the Wii controllers…. Perfect Shot, the original RE Blaster, Wii Zapper, and one of those pack in shotguns found in the budget Zoo titles. As I am sure many Wii owners know, these guns are “close but no cigar” type accessories, meaning that they all miss some key feature that would make them well suited for the wide variety of Wii gun shooter games available.

Although perhaps not a full on Bulls-Eye… This RE Magnum Blaster is definitely my favorite Wii gun accessory to date!

The set is nicely packaged for starters! I could definitely see a collector wanting to keep one of these sealed for display purposes!

Onto the actual gun, which is surely the part of this set which you are going to be the most curious about. Does the gun look “cooler” in person? Ehhhh kind of! It does have a nice metallic sort of gun metal grey paint on it that you cannot so readily notice in the pics here, but it is one of the few gun housings that is going to look slick alongside a black Wii console. The actual gun housing itself is built with about the same type of caliber hard plastic found in Perfect Shots, it’s sturdy and lightweight but it could crack or break outright if you dropped it onto a hard floor. The gun also appears more abnormally long than in the pic I think, largely due to the fact that it is made to also incorporate the old style add-on Motion Plus modules. Motion Plus or without, the gun holds the Wii-mote so securely, it’s unlikely that the Wii-Mote will ever go flying out! Like the previous RE Blaster the Nunchuk cord fits through a small slot near the top of the gun instead of having a connector in the bottom of the grip such as a Perfect Shot. The dangling cord is not really an aesthetic issue with this gun IMO as it was with the OG Blaster and it’s all in one zapper design. The gun feels well balanced once loaded up despite it’s elongated physique, and it remains comfortable to grasp for extended periods of play. The grip is definitely more ergonomic than most other gun housings, albeit still a bit on the thick side. One bit I most definitely noted during game play was that the grip takes a while to get used to because of a second trigger there below the primary one. Until you get used to that, you will likely be firing that off accidentally here and there. The plus side though is that this secondary trigger is one of the really “cool” features of this gun that you cannot really spot in the pics! This second trigger operates a latch that lays over the A button, acting as a slider which pulls back over the button. It’s clever but the action is a bit “deep” and “spongy” I’d say… Not as responsive as pulling off rounds with the normal B button trigger. The “spongy” action is likely not going to be that massive of an issue for most since most games only use the A button occasionally to switch weapons or lob a grenade. I am probably more worried with the mechanism breaking internally on this second “A” trigger. And as a reviewer pointed out, it could also have issues working with well worn A button…. Time will tell!

It also comes with an Umbrella Logo Nunchuk Geltab cover and two RE themed skins, one with red highlights and the other with blue. I do not know if that design was on purpose or not, but I could not help but notice that the scheme is akin to the traditional player 1 & 2 designations of arcade gun shooters which has carried over into consoles.

Oh! I nearly forgot to mention the knife! The Knife? It is so… Going into storage because I am just too self conscious to use that thing! Especially since it’s useless besides for decor. If someone caught you or I pretending to shank zombies in the dark with this foam toy thing, we had get laughed at, and deservedly so. Haw! I think the knife was just a way to address the Nunchuk controllers with a tiny dress-up with a 50 cent accessory, and therefore be able to charge more for the set.

Indeed with the current MSRP I do think this gun as is is overpriced by at least a fiver. But for me it was worth plonking down for a pair of these just to get the gun housings!

Great for Resident Evil fans…, April 2, 2011

I have to state I got really excited when I saw this because I am a massive Resident Evil fan. I purchased it because I recently got a Wii and Resident Evil 4 for it. I was satisfied when I first got it even though it does appear kind of cheap and chinsey at first glance and second and third and so on. It’s not high quality but it is light weight. This is especially good because the Wii remote weighs the gun down a lot. The only real problem I found with it is the gun. The second trigger is extremely stiff (when the remote is in it) and makes it very difficult to press it. In RE 4 for the Wii you have to hold the first trigger to aim and use the second trigger (which is on the butt of the gun) to fire. It is near impossible with the gun because it is so stiff. I found it difficult to keep my aim and fire at the same time. The butt of the gun is pretty massive and doesn’t help when you have small hands. But it doesn’t matter how massive your hands are. My husband has massive hands and still had a hard time. The knife is great but the gun is just too difficult to use. I did not like spending the amount for this considering it’s so difficult to use but I still enjoy having it. It is really cool….The knife is rubber and the gun is plastic. The remote skins were simple to apply and remove. Plus the tiny rubber Umbrella symbol for the numchuch makes it really simple to use. It keeps your thumb from slipping as much. So overall I am not satisfied with the price but I do enjoy having it.
